For a man who boasts Gregg Allman as a father and quips that his new album is “Darth Vader meets B.B. King,” Devon Allman has an uncanny way of delivering modern blues. The road-hardened ‘tribe trio – Allman on guitar and vocals, George Potsos on bass and Gabriel Strange on drums – cuts its terrestrial teeth on its second platter, Space Age Blues with mature confidence throughout. “Warm in Wintertime” is an evocative gem with Allman sounding soulful and engaged as Bobby Yang’s layered violin army exudes pathos. There’s help from Huey Lewis (harmonica on "Could Get Dangerous) and Ron Holloway (Dizzy Gillespie’s saxophonist blows heat on “Salvation” and “New Pet Monkey” ). A couple of instrumental detours add spatial tones on an 11-track winner grounded in a warm, spiritual vibe.
