Hailing from Eastern Pennsylvania, the Dana Gaynor Band have spent much of the last year preparing their new LP, The Adventures of Bobbie Ragoon. The entire slate of songs were written, engineered and produced by the titular Dana Gaynor in her home studio, and from the swanky opening notes of “Creatures of the Night,” you can tell the band has rubbed elbows with, and taken a few notes from, rock’s top players. “Hitchcock County” would feel at home in the Tom Petty songbook and you can certainly hear the rollicking influence of bar bands like Little Feat on “Streamliner.” According to Gaynor, there’s a variety of players on The Adventures of Bobbie Ragoon, but the core of the band is singer/guitarist Gaynor, bassist/singer Tony Mancino and drummer Don Plowman. Indeed, for every track on this release, the rhythm section finds the pocket easily, and as for the rest of the band, it seems Gaynor had her pick. “We have the good fortune of being able to draw from a revolving family of awesome players to round out every show and project,” she told Relix . As veterans of the Northeast live music scene, Gaynor and company complement their live shows with this batch of studio originals and vice-versa. On the not-too-serious album closer “Till the End of Time,” amidst Star Trek references, she gives some solid advice: “Until the end of time/ We’re living on this wheel/ We’re spinning round and round/ Until it makes us real.” And with The Adventures of Bobbie Ragoon, the Dana Gaynor Band find their own reality.
