Carl Stone: Baroo

Pioneer laptop composer Carl Stone describes his hypercaffeinated Baroo as his latest attempt to “articulate the intangible area between the recognizable and the unfathomable.” He does so by “metaphorically” shattering sound files “like glass” and then reconfiguring them into “mosaic patterns” in realtime. Which is to say that Stone makes music that can hit your ear holes like a DMT flash. Stone, like any smart DJ, is loath to reveal his secret samples. But his magic mixture of global sources is grist for speed-racer loops and edits that pinball from peak to peak, retracing neural trade routes at dazzling velocities.
