There isn’t a deep meaning behind Boz Scaggs’ decision to record an album in Memphis: He simply loves the music that’s come out of the place. So he put together a tight little band, featuring Steve Jordan (drums/production), Willie Weeks (bass) and Ray Parker Jr. doubling up Scaggs’ guitars, set up shop at Royal Studios in Memphis and let the vibe soak through. Green tune, Scaggs avoids the obvious repertoire – there isn’t a single tune here from the Stax catalog. Instead he takes a couple of tunes associated with the late Willy DeVille ( “Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl,” “Cadillac Walk” ), tosses in Tony Joe White’s “Rainy Night in Georgia,” Tyrone Davis’ “Can I Change My Mind,” a Steely Dan tune ( “Pearl of the Quarter” ) and a few choice blues numbers, and sings
