Trixie Whitley, daughter of Chris, has pulled a fast one. You’ll understand when you hear her belt out the lyrics to “Believe in You” – which Black Dub guru Daniel Lanois has made available on the Web. Backed by a tight band playing music that bubbles over with beyond-catchy Jamaican beats, Whitley’s deeply effusive, world-weary vocals make one wonder if the 20-something is actually a decades older soul diva. “Ring the Alarm” utilizes effects that bring Kraftwerk to mind, while the beat-heavy “Nomad” is a soul searching odyssey that would make Gladys Knight proud. This album – with Lanois on guitar, Brian Blade on drums and Daryl Johnson on bass, is destined for classic status.
