Big Sam’s Funky Nation: King of the Party

On King of the Party, Big Sam’s Funky Nation blends slamming, guitar-driven rock and schmaltzy dance grooves with New Orleans funk. Big Sam Williamson, a former trombonist with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, has one goal: to get your ass out on the dance floor. The title track is as heavy as it gets – a floor shaking bassline fleshed out with wailing Slash-like guitar solos. “Krunked Up” makes reference to the original slang of the word, and would make a fantastic blaxploitation film track or lost Soul Train classic. “Take 5” is a slow, trombone waltz, while Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle” is reclaimed from The Black Crowes for the dance floor. " Big Ole Booty" is the best track – a funky horn blaring ode intended to get your baby’s backside going round and round.
