Battles: Dross Glop

Warp
If you merely liked Battles’ 2011 LP Gloss Drop, then prepare to love it in its remixed form. Dross Glop sees the New York art rock greats recruiting some prolific pals in the electronic world to alter the state of their post-Tyondai Braxton second full-length’s dozen cuts with a wild array of results. Highlights include: The Field transforming “Sweetie & Shag” into a minimalist techno mindbender, Kode9 rewiring on “Africastle,” recently reunited Kosmische legends Qluster spacing out “Dominican Fade” and The Alchemist and Shabaaz Palaces – two opposite ends of the current hip-hop spectrum – co-existing harmoniously with distinct versions of “Futura” and “White Electric,” respectively. Remix albums aren’t supposed to sonically surpass the original LP, but Dross Glop is an exception to that rule.
