“No one can deny a good song,” says singer/guitarist Andy Burri of Brooklyn rock quartet The Tales. “That’s kind of the framework for our band.” Burri met the other members of The Tales – Mike Haziza and Dave Brandwein – in Boston around the summer of ‘08 via a mutual bass player of their then-current bands. “Meeting these guys and seeing how creative and talented and diverse their musical landscapes were, I knew I had found a way to bring together the idea of The Tales,” Burri says. The group’s tight vocal harmonies, clean and reverb-ridden guitars, and catchy pop rhythms that appear on the four tracks of the band’s self-titled EP hints to the music of past decades. “Build a Home” hints at The Beatles’ sound while “Sick Joke” feels like a lost Beach Boys song. “[Sometimes] someone will just come up with a chorus or a good beginning verse into the chorus and we’ll flesh the rest out,” Burri says of the band’s songwriting approach. “We spend most of the time on our vocals.”
