Drummer Russ Harris and his brother, guitar player Paul Harris started their psychedelic funk and rock band, The Mushroom Cloud in 2010. Bassist Charlie Mazur, joined the next year and ever since, the band has been playing shows and festivals in Connecticut, New York City, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. In February, Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews Band asked The Mushroom Cloud to join him on stage for an event in New Haven. Tinsley played with the group for an hour and fans were quite impressed with the results. Paul Harris describes the trio’s sound, noting, “Overall, we like groups who have big sounds and make people dance, like Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Phish, Primus, The Disco Biscuits, Lettuce, just to name a few. Basically anything that has a good groove and takes you on a journey in your head” . The Mushroom Cloud released their debut album, Launch Sequence, this past September and they are currently in the studio working on new material as they continue to tour.
