Being the 17-year-old daughter of Gregg Allman can cast a rather daunting shadow, but vocalist Brooklyn Allman, who fronts the rock/alt/screamo band Picture Me Broken, has her own creative ambitions. The blues appear to be a common familial theme. “I can honestly say that 90 percent of my lyrics are from personal experience and feelings,” says Allman. “On the new album, I identify specific people and I also explore very controversial topics. I can’t just write dark lyrics on command. I have to be in a certain place, emotionally.” Allman, who is also a classically-trained pianist, has been in a band since her pre-teen years. Lane Four, the tween group that became Picture Me Broken, released a scorching EP, Dearest (I’m So Sorry), played the Warped tour, opened sheds for Linkin Park and won an MTV VMA. “We don’t limit ourselves to pure rock influences and bands within our genre,” she says. The band’s latest album veers toward hard rock with heavy metal guitars and symphonic flourishes. “We’re really trying to push the limits and come up with something completely experimental and different.”
