Yo La Tengo will once again celebrate Hannukah a New York’s Bowery Ballroom. The veteran indie-rock trio will perform every night of the Festival of Lights, which this year falls on December 4-11, benefiting a different charitable organization at each show. As is tradition,the concerts will all feature a surprise opening act, unannounced guest comedian and a curated mix available for purchase. Different musical guests, which have ranged from local heroes to international stars over the years, will likely sit in each night as well.

The New Jersey-bred group hosted their first Hannukah run at Hoboken, NJ’s Maxwell’s, where they played their first-ever show in the ‘80s, in 2001. They celebrated the holiday at Maxwell’s most years, occasionally taking a season off, until the club closed during the summer of 2013. The band revived the tradition at Bowery Ballroom in 2017 and have returned each Hannukah since then, with the exception of 2000 due to the global pandemic. Yo La Tengo guitarist Ira Kaplan told Relix that the pandemic helped reinforce the importance of the shows for them and they even continued the celebration as a livestream in 2020, performing at New York’s the Greene Space on the “ninth night of Hannukah,” the evening after the holiday officially ended at sundown.

As previously reported, Yo La Tengo will serve as the house band for a Yoko Ono tribute at Los Angeles’ The Broad on August 8.

Presale tickets for the Hannukah Run will be available on 7/22 at 10 AM through 7/23 at 10 PM ET with the HANUKKAH26. A limited number of no-fee tickets will be available in person at Record Grouch (986 Manhattan Ave., Brooklyn NY 11222) in Greenpoint beginning at noon on Fri. 7/24, limited to two tickets per show.
