Widespread Panic have confirmed their New Year’s plans. The Southern jam-titans will ring in 2027 with shows at Charlotte, NC’s Bojangles Coliseum on December 30 and 31. Though once a regular stop for the band, Widespread Panic have not performed in the Queen City since a December 31, 2014, show at Time Warner Cable Arena, which was also their most recent New Year’s gig in North Carolina. The group has performed at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre each New Year’s that they have played on that date since 2022, when they appeared at the Nashville Arena. Widespread Panic last played the arena now known as Bojangles Coliseum on October 16, 2003.
Over the weekend, Widespread Panic were in North Carolina for shows at Wilmington, NC’s Live Oak Bank Pavilion. It turned out to be an eventful few days. On Friday, the venue was temporally evacuated six songs into their first set due to severe weather and lightning in the area, though the band was able to return and deliver the rest of the show. The next day they turned in a celebratory show that ended with a choice encore consisting of “Halloween Face,” just days before the official start of fall, and their first take on Talking Heads’ classic “Burning Down The House” since December 31, 2016. The Talking Heads nod felt particularly appropriate since David Byrne concluded his Why Is The Sky? Tour in Queens, NY on the same night and announced that he will sit with his former bandmates for a special discussion tied to the launch of a new SiriusXM channel later this month.
Widespread Panic will perform at Memphis, TN’s Mempho Music Festivalon October 10 and 11.
