Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and David Letterman have always had a close relationship, with Vedder appearing a number of times on Letterman’s show including a special appearance during his final week. Letterman then returned the favor later on by inducting Pearl Jam into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after Neil Young was forced to drop out due to illness. 

So it’s no surprise that it was Vedder who showed up at the Kennedy Center Honors for Letterman, who was the recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Vedder and the host’s longtime bandleader Paul Shaffer teamed up for a thoughtful cover of Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me in Your Heart.”
