Watch: The Main Squeeze’s Ben “Smiley” Silverstein Collaborates with Antwaun Stanley on New Single “Special”
The Main Squeeze keyboardist Ben “Smiley” Silverstein records solo work under the moniker Smile High. He recently released a single, “Yodel Up,” which will appear on his upcoming, debut EP. Today, Silverstein has shared the second single from the record, “Special.” The new song features vocalist Antwaun Stanley, best known for his work with Vulfpeck.
“‘Special’ was a true long distance 2020 collaboration between myself and Antwaun Stanley. It felt so natural to bring to life with such an incredible talent like Antwaun,” Silverstein told Relix. Indeed, the two musicians were never in the same city during the song’s creation.
The two first met when The Main Squeeze were creating a cover of “With A Little Help From My Friends” that featured Stanley, Jennifer Hartswick, the group Lawrence and many more. Silverstein saved Stanley’s a cappella part for future use. He then sampled the song when creating a new instrumental. When he reached out to the vocalist with the composition, Stanley quickly replied with a fuller song concept. Silverstein later tapped Main Squeeze axe man Maximillian Newman to add guitar to the song
Smile High’s debut EP is set to drop in January of 2021. Listen to “Special” below!
