Today, Sufjan Stevens announced his compositions for Justin Peck’s 2019 ballet Reflections will be released as an LP of the same name on May 19 via Asthmatic Kitty. In celebration of the announcement, a live video of the pianists featured on the album–Timo Andres and Conor Hanick–performing “Ekstasis” was shared.
Andres and Hanick perform throughout the entirety of the upcoming studio release, comprised of seven songs written for two pianos and 11 dancers and commissioned by the Houston Ballet. Notably, the crisp studio album was mixed, mastered and engineered by Ryan Streber at Oktaven Audio.
Reflections is another collaboration between Stevens and Peck, whose shared work dates back to 2012’s Year of the Rabbit and includes 2014’s Everywhere We Go, 2016’s In the Countenance of Kings, 2017’s The Decalogue and 2019’s Principia. Andres also collaborated on the soundtrack for Peck’s ballet The Decalogue.
Reflections follows Stevens’ 2021 releases A Beginner’s Mind and Convocations.
