TAUK guitarist Matt Jalbert has released “Somebody’s Child,” the first single and title track from his debut album of the same name. The LP is set for release November 20 via ELM Records. “Somebody’s Child” arrives with a new video and officially launches the musician’s next chapter, which finds him singing and writing lyrics for the first time on the eight-song collection.
“This was the first song I wrote,” Jalbert said in a statement. “At first, I kept wondering whether it was too late to start writing lyrics in my thirties, especially when so many musicians and songwriters had started much earlier. How could I ever catch up? But once I got into the creative process, I realized none of that mattered. I was having fun doing it. The song gets at that feeling: make the most of your time, do what feels good and keep searching. If you can have some fun and feel some love, you’re lucky. When you’re a child, comparison doesn’t matter. You make things because it’s fun to make things. You have to keep that spirit alive.”
Recorded at Tone Town in Los Angeles, Somebody’s Child was produced by Jalbert, Curtis Kelley and Devin Runco. Kelley and Runco engineered and mixed the album, which was mastered by Joe Bagale. Jalbert handles guitar and vocals, with Kelley on drums, percussion and vocals, and Runco on bass. Steve Watkins plays keys throughout the set.
This fall, Jalbert will hit the road for a three-day tour with Natalie Brooke. The run will make stops at Philadelphia’s MilkBoy on October 29, New York’s Bowery Palace on October 30 and Virginia Beach’s The Bunker Brewpub on October 31. While Somebody’s Child was made with a dedicated studio cast, Jalbert’s live band will bring together Ben Atkind on drums, Eli Winderman on keys and vocals, Jonathan Colman on bass and Adam November on guitar.
