Six-time Grammy-nominated pedal steel powerhouse Robert Randolph has unveiled his full-length album, Preacher Kids. The 10-track collection arrives today, Friday, June 27, in tandem with the official music video for the LP’s focus track, “7 Generations,” a red-hot roots-rock anthem regarding legacy and the wheel of life.  

Presenting like a narrative, “7 Generations” finds Randolph behind his instrument of choice and in a state of reflection: “Grew up in church/ The preacher taught me well.” The musician name-drops the people and places that helped him get here, giving proper credit to the kin that propelled his success and impassioned performance endeavors. 

“Everyone involved in this record — from the band to the people who inspired it — shares a similar story,” says Randolph. “We’re all preacher’s kids. This album feels like our collective diary, rooted in gospel and shaped by the journey from the church to the stages of rock and blues.”

Preacher Kids represents Randolph’s debut on the esteemed Sun Records. Produced by Shooter Jennings, the collection offers listeners a raw, roots-focused blend of gospel, blues, rock, and soul. The set showcases the musician’s capacity, both solo and with the help of others, including Tash Neal (Slash, London Solos) on guitar, Jay White (Amos Lee) on bass and vocals, and Willie Barthel on drums, as well as fellow guests Margo Price and Tash Neal. 

“Shooter comes from outlaw country and rock — he’s old school,” Randolph says. “We got in the room and let the tape roll. If it felt good, we kept it. That was the mission.”
