Watch Phoebe Bridgers Perform Two Songs and Smash Her Guitar on ‘SNL’

Phoebe Bridgers made headlines this weekend after she tapped into the primitive roots of rock and roll and smashed a guitar on Saturday Night Live.
The indie rocker – who released her acclaimed sophomore LP Punisher in June 2020 – performed her tracks “Kyoto” and “I Know The End” for the live gig, and at the crescendo of the latter tune took her Danelectro guitar to an onstage monitor.
After some objections online arose about Bridgers destroying the instrument – despite the fact that smashing guitars has been a rock and roll trope for decades, from Jimi Hendrix’s pyrotechnics to The Clash’s London Calling album cover – many fans defended the choice, including Jason Isbell who tweeted, “That was like an 85 dollar guitar she smashed come on guys.”
Bridgers responded to Isbell’s tweet confirming she had been in touch with the guitar maker, saying, “I told danelectro I was going to do it and they wished me luck and told me they’re hard to break.”
