Following the success of Phish’s coveted Secret Set at Mondegreen this past weekend, the band has posted the entire hour-long improvisation on YouTube. The 4K HDR recording of the Friday evening set captures the psychedelic projections from various angles. Just like at the show, fans online cannot see the artists perform, nor any camera tricks, and instead gaze upon programmatically generated visuals.
Keeping with their not-so-secret tradition of secret sets, the Friday night offering centered the music of the sprawling improvisational jam and accompanying visuals rather than the storied musicians or their cult-classic tracks. Not so traditionally, though, Trey alluded to the possibility of a mainstage performance after hours, drawing a much larger crowd than in past years and iterations. The set surprised fans nonetheless, when the ambient frame of years past transformed into an electric jam experience at the 11th hour, or rather, 12th minute of the set.
In line with this democratic approach to secrecy, the full Friday night performance is now available to stream on the band’s YouTube channel, promising a well-rounded journey through the sensory staging for fans who couldn’t make it to Dover, Del., for the real deal, or attendees keen to relive the action.
