This past Saturday, UC Berkeley football hosted their first-ever Grateful Dead night. The band performed some of its earliest shows on the UC Berkeley campus going back to 1966. Then in 1967 the group appeared at the university’s Greek Theater for the first of 29 times.
The California football team is known as the Golden Bears, which prompted some additions to the helmets, with Dancing Bears joining the traditional mascot.
In addition, Mickey Hart was on hand to help the marching band perform “Fire on the Mountain” prior to the game at California Memorial Stadium. Have a look at the action below:
(Alas, the Golden Bears lost to Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who were ranked #21 nationally.)
