As we originally reported, after Billy Strings’ Halloween performance at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, he made his way to Nevermore Hall and sat in with Leftover Salmon. Strings appeared for much of Salmon’s extended set. Towards the end of the evening, some of Strings’ guests from his CFB Bank Arena gig also participated, as Sierra Hull (mandolin), Molly Tuttle (guitar), Jimmy Olson (keys) and Chris Sterr (guitar) joined in the action as well.
Strings first appeared on the traditional “Little Maggie” which was followed by “New Country Blues” the title track to the 2009 Emmitt-Nershi Band album. Then, following LoS original “Ask the Fish” Strings contributed to a series of segued covers: “Dear Prudence,” “Can’t You See” and “Sweet Home Margaritaville.” Next, after Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up In Blue,” came a pairing of the Violent Femmes’ “Blister In The Sun” and Green Day’s “American Idiot.” Leftover Salmon’s “Down In The Hollow,” which Strings plays with his own band followed. Then, Salmon's “Aquatic Hitchhiker” began a sequence that also included another pass at “Blister in the Sun,” followed by Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Takin’ Care Of Business,” the Rolling Stones' “Honky Tonk Women,” Leftover’s “Live It High,” Bill Monroe’s “I'm Going Back to Old Kentucky” and then back into “Takin' Care of Business.”
Strings remained as the additional musicians also joined in for “Catfish John,” a Jerry Garcia Band staple and Bob Marley’s “One Love.” This led to “Been All Around This World” and “I’ll Fly Away,” two concert debuts for Salmon. The evening concluded with John Hartford’s “Up On The Hill Where They Do The Boogie.”
