Watch: Gorillaz Premiere Video for “Cracker Island” Ft. Thundercat

Gorillaz premiered the music video for their latest single, “Cracker Island,” featuring Thundercat. The video marks the digital group’s first in over a year, and “Cracker Island,” which was released in June, serves as their first offering since their 2021 EP, Meanwhile.

The video, co-directed by Goby Fx and Jamie Hewlett and produced by Damon Albarn and Hewlett, takes the viewer on a new journey with the virtual band, showcasing the usual cast of characters inside a Los Angeles hospital. Each member of the band appears in the hospital for different reasons. Fictional English singer, musician and member of the British virtual band Gorillaz  2-D is interrogated by police in the waiting room while he seemingly hallucinates a glimmering Thundercat, who is interspersed throughout the video surrounded by a neon aura. 2-D’s bandmate Russell is seen staring at a television showcasing the news of an occult ceremony on the Hollywood sign. The video ends with the entire hospital entranced by the news report on the television.

The video closes with a quote from the late American comedian Groucho Marx, which reads, “Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light.”

Gorillaz are set to kick off a much anticipated North American tour later this year, beginning on Sept.11 in Vancouver, Canada. The tour will be their first since 2018. They will travel across the Pacific Northwest, making stops in Washington and Oregon before a short stint along the West Coast with shows in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. Gorillaz will continue through California with a show in San Franciso at Chase Center on Sept.  21, as well as two shows in Inglewood, Calif. The virtual band will continue with shows throughout the Midwest and the East Coast, alongside two shows in Toronto and Montreal. The tour will conclude in Miami at FTX Arena on Oct. 21.
