The Rolling Stones have formally unveiled Foreign Tongues, their 35th studio album. Arriving on July 10 via Capitol, the band first suggested their new release last month with a series of increasingly public teases, building from posts on a burner Instagram account to a limited vinyl-exclusive first single and global billboard campaign. With their official announcement, the band has shared the project’s second single, another raucous fireball of guitars with wide-eyed piano and arena-grade cooing harmonies.

Foreign Tongues was cut in less than a month at London’s Metropolis Studios with Andrew Watt, who also produced 2023’s Hackney Diamonds. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood were joined by a band of bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Matt Clifford and drummer Steve Jordan. Special guests appear throughout the 14-track set, including Paul McCartney (another Watt collaborator, who also guested on Hackney Diamonds), Robert Smith, Steve Winwood and The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, and the late Charlie Watts is heard through tapes from one of his final recording sessions before his passing in 2021.

“I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis,” Jagger commented in a release. “It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone.”

“The Foreign Tongues album has a continuity from Hackney Diamonds and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us,” Richards echoed. “It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”

“The atmosphere in the room was so creative,” Wood said, “and the whole band was on top form throughout the whole process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”
