French multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer allowed viewers of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series, into his tropical and remote home studio on an island, in the Philippines. During the intimate recording, FKJ–short for French Kiwi Juice, and born Vincent Fenton–shared five tracks he built from the ground up and live.

FKJ opened the set with his song “New Life” off his eponymous 2022 LP V I N C E N T; following the track, he said with a heavy french accent, “This is my home, my space where I spend my most time in. I’m about to play you, not really my songs as they are but kind of more my process of making them.”

After his brief statement, FKJ moved to his piano to share the title track of his 2018 release TUI lush with layered piano, saxophone, beat/loop machines, drums and guitar. He followed with the gentle fretwork on his Fender Stratocaster of “IHM” again, adding layer upon layer to the musical flow and, this time, allowing whispered vocals to flow into expertly crafted musical potpourri. For the final song, FKJ shared his mellifluous piano composition “Ylang Ylang,” during an especially sweet-sounding moment, FKJ’s partner June Marieezy, also known as ((( O ))), gave a quick cameo as she walked by the studio’s floor-to-ceiling windows with their child in her arms and gave a quick twirl.

FKJ is set to visit North America with a tour making stops in cities including Brooklyn, N.Y., Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles and more starting on Oct. 6 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.
