Last night at the Ryman Auditorium, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th Annual Americana Honors & Awards. The four surviving original Heartbreakers were on hand for the ceremony and performed some Petty classics with Chris Stapleton fronting the group.
Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch and Ron Blair were joined by Stapleton for “American Girl” and “Breakdown.” This was a rare appearance by Lynch with his former bandmates, as he left the group in 1994. The group’s later-era drummer Steve Ferrone then swapped in for Lynch, along with multi-instrumentalist Scott Thurston for “You Wreck Me.”
