Watch Brittany Howard Perform “Baby” for the 2020 MoMA Film Benefit

Looking back on the Dec. 7 MoMA Film Benefit – honoring the life and philanthropy of George Clooney – Alabama Shakes singer-turned-solo artist Brittany Howard has shared a new pro-shot performance of her Jaime cut “Baby.”

Howard wore Chanel for her emotive performance (as a nod to the event’s luxury sponsor); she also flexed her skills as a bandleader, seamlessly working her way through the peaks and valleys of the mid-album track.

“In our household, you didn’t just listen to black music or white music—you could just listen to anything,” Howard told Relix in 2019,. “We’d listen to Elvis Presley and then we’d listen to Prince, and I learned early on that there’s no set way to listen to music. Which is funny because, when I’d go stay with my cousins, they’d say rock was white people’s music. I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? This is good—this is Black Sabbath! You don’t know nothing!’”
