The Warren Haynes Band pulled into Rochester, N.Y. last night, March 3, to continue the full band leg of the Winter of Warren tour. Following the frontman’s staggering solo run and a full-band tour kickoff from Suwannee Amp Jam #2, the quintet brought on another two-set show packed with fan favorites at the Kodak Center.
Accompanied by Terence Higgins, Kevin Scott, Matt Slocum and Greg Osby, the venerable Haynes took the stage on Tuesday night with his solo original “This Life as We Know It,” drawn from 2024’s Million Voices Whisper. After cutting to the Gov’t Mule songbook with “Tear Me Down,” the guitarist and singer-songwriter and his tried and true accompanists offered up this year’s first live renditions of “You Ain’t Above Me” and Gregg Allman’s late career essential “Just Another Rider,” which Haynes cowrote for his Allman Brothers Band bandmate’s 2011 offering Low Country Blues. Further staples like “Banks of the Deep End” and “Hottentot” took the group into a first frame closer of “Man in Motion.”
The Warren Haynes Band returned for their second set with “Terrified,” another recent Haynes solo original. After the bawdy blues of “Big Leg Woman (With a Short Short Mini Skirt)” and the acrobatic jam passages of the “Lies, Lies, Lies” and “Monkey Dance” medley, Haynes looked back on the roots of his solo career to resurrect “Tattoos and Cigarettes,” a cut from his recently reissued 1993 solo debut Tales of Ordinary Madness, for the first time since Aug. 1992. A victory lap through unskippable hits like “Instrumental Illness” and “Thorazine Shuffle” primed the band for an explosive set-closer of “Invisible,” followed by an inspiring encore of “Soulshine.”
The Warren Haynes Band will return to the stage tonight for a set at Wilkes-Barre, Pa.’s F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts. Find tickets and the band’s full live itinerary at warrenhaynes.net
