Warren Haynes has announced the release of a nine-track album, The Whisper Sessions, due on Friday, September 12, via Fantasy Records. The impending arrival extends an offering of material that went into his recent solo record, Million Voices Whisper, by presenting stripped-down takes on LP features. Three of these include Haynes’ Allman Brothers bandmate, Derek Trucks, and pay homage to their shared roots via the ABB classic, “Melissa.” As an initial preview, Haynes shared “These Changes.”

The Whisper Sessions offers rare and unprocessed access to seven select tracks off Haynes’ fourth solo LP, evoking a sense of lucidity and unabashed rawness. The forthcoming set, which will only be available for digital download, delivers songs like “This Life As We Know It,” which rose to the Top 15 on the Americana singles charts and Top 40 at Triple A Radio.

“We didn’t plan to release stripped-down versions of the songs from Million Voices Whisper; it just kind of happened organically,” says Haynes. “We were combing through these performances and realized that they offer a unique perspective into the songs themselves, so we thought it would be cool to make them available.”

Also included, “Real Real Love” taps into Haynes and Trucks’ shared affinity for Gregg Allman’s masterful work by co-opting lyrics initially started by their maestro. As the initial preview of the newly announced set of stripped-down music, Haynes shares the single, “These Changes.”

Touching on the first single, Haynes referred to “These Changes” as, “I love this song, which is about looking back and forward at the same time and navigating your way through an ever-changing life. The instrumental section at the end, where we are trading guitar riffs and playing off of each other, was not in the original arrangement as we wrote it – it just came about organically once we started recording the song. It was a great opportunity for the two of us to rekindle our chemistry that we’ve had for a long time.”

Million Voices Whisper was initially released in November 2024 and assumed the No. 1 slot on the Billboard Blues Chart. Its arrival marked the first solo set from Hayness in nearly 12 years, an 11-track assemblage of self-produced blues-laden rock that showcases the musician’s soulful side and illuminates his superior musical expertise.
