At the end of a packed year of performances, Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger of Umphrey’s McGee have announced their 23rd Annual Holiday Show. On December 13, the co-lead guitarists will return to their Chicago home base for a one-night-only engagement at Park West, featuring support as always from UM’s 27-year percussionist Andy Farag, as well as keyboardist Joel Cummins and pedal steel player Mike Racky. As always, proceeds from the show will go to benefit the People’s Music School, Chicago’s largest completely free music education program.
Bayliss and Cinniger’s holiday spectacular is always a sight to behold, packed with intimate acoustic performances, setlist rarities and supercharged versions of holiday classics. Last year’s staging included seasonally appropriate treatments of songs like The Band’s “This Must Be Christmas,” John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” and The Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York.” Tickets for the show will go gon sale tomorrow, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. CT here.
Umphrey’s McGee wrapped up their proper tour dates in September, but they’ll reappear from Oct. 24-26 for a mini-residency at Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Brooklyn Bowl, then jump to Indianapolis for another at the Vogue Theatre Nov. 6-8. They’ll cap off their year with a New Year’s event at Atlanta’s The Tabernacle, then continue into 2025 with two nights at Chicago’s The Salt Shed with Andy Frasco & The U.N.
