Umphrey’s McGee took the stage in Portland, Ore. last night, March 17, for the first of two shows at the famed Revolution Hall. To set off their double-header, the pioneering jam-prog outfit, sans guitarist Jake Cinnninger, maintained the blinding velocity of their West Coast leg on the Sky’s the Limit 2026 Tour with a night of old favorites and a few setlist curveballs. In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, the evening’s biggest surprise arrived with a debut cover of The Pogues.

Umphrey’s McGee commenced their performance on Tuesday night with the ever-reliable opener of “The Triple Wide,” then rolled on into the comparably uncommon “Jimmy Stewart” hybrid track “Wide Open,” drawn from their recent eighth studio album Blueprints. From the tension and release of “Hourglass,” the band quickly caught the crowd off guard with a return to the old original “Mamu,” which debuted back in 1999 and had been left dormant since May 2015. A standalone rendition of the stormy “I Don’t Know What I Want” took the group into a first-frame closing cover of Wang Chung’s ‘80s pop-rock smash “Dance Hall Days,” delivered for only the 11th time since its 2012 premiere.

After the intermission, Umphrey’s returned for their second set in peak form, ripping through a collection of fan-favorite originals like “Phil’s Farm,” “Day Nurse” (featuring a jam on the theme from People’s Court) and both parts of “Cemetary Walk,” plus their fifth cover to date of Al Green’s “Take Me to The River,” offering in the style of Talking Heads’ version. The ensemble capped off a long night of eye-opening exploration with a first-time cover of The Pogues’ 1985 Celtic punk staple “Sally MacLennane,” followed by a final note of “2nd Self.”

Umphrey’s McGee will return to the stage tonight for a follow-up at Revolution Hall. Find tickets and the band’s full live itinerary at umphreys.com.
