Each Tuesday, two additional shows are added to the Play Dead app. Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux selects a pair of releases from the vault that join the library of material already available. These shows have been mastered from the original tapes in Hi-Res. Originally, 20 new archival recordings shows were seeded to the app, along with the Dave's Picks series of releases previously only available on CD.
Last week, Lemieux picked a 1973 show from Syracuse, then jumped to 1992 with the spring tour opener at The Omni in Atlanta. This week it’s two additional performances from March of 1992. Lemieux has selected March 8 and 9 from the Capital Center in Landover.
Martin Knott says of the March 8 show: “"Let the Good Times Roll gets things started, and that's exactly what we're doing! Touch of Grey follows, and the energy is already through the roof. Minglewood has the DC faithful rocking before Ramble On Rose. Then two welcome returns, Black Throated Wind and Loose Lucy, bring the surprises. Bobby delivers a Dylan marathon with Desolation Row before Big Railroad Blues > Music Never Stopped closes a colorful first set.
"The Sunday sermon opens with Samson & Delilah. Vince and Bruce get things moving on Way to Go Home before Jerry delivers a huge Foolish Heart. Bobby pours everything into Looks Like Rain, and Phil's Wave to the Wind leads into a killer jam and we’re into Drums, out of Space comes a ripping Watchtower, followed by a So Many Roads that brings tears to my eyes. And we're near DC, so you know what's coming! Throwing Stones > NFA has the kids dancing and shaking their bones. The Mighty Quinn sends everyone home smiling. Night one in Landover. What a party! Enjoy!"
As for March 9, he adds, “March 9 delivers Jack Straw, West L.A., Row Jimmy, and a smoking Deal. The second set goes deep with Victim > Iko Iko > Corina > Dark Star. After Drums > Space, Miracle explodes into a magnificent Morning Dew. Satisfaction brings it home. Four nights between Hampton and Landover. Great friends, incredible music, and memories that never fade. Spring Tour 1992. What a ride! Enjoy!"
