Tom Petty Taken Off Life Support

October 2, 2017

UPDATE 2: The CBS report that claimed Petty had passed away is reportedly incorrect, as the LAPD has clarified they have no information on Petty’s passing. TMZ reports that Petty is still “clinging to life” but “is not expected to live throughout the day.”

UPDATE: TMZ is now reporting that they have learned Petty was taken off life support after arriving at the hospital without any brain activity.

Tom Petty was found unconscious last night and taken to the hospital, where he was put on life support, TMZ reports. Police told the outlet that Petty was “not breathing and in full cardiac arrest” when he was found at his home in Malibu, CA.

The iconic singer-songwriter, 66, was in “critical” condition when he was found, but TMZ reports that EMTs were able to get a pulse before he was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital.

Petty and his Heartbreakers just wrapped up an extended 40th anniversary tour at the Hollywood Bowl last week.

This is a developing story.
