Today: Pete Wernick to Celebrate HIs 75th Birthday with Deering Banjos Livestream
Today marks banjo pioneer Pete Wernick’s 75th birthday. To celebrate, he’ll be performing a livestream as part of the banjo company Deering’s livestream programming. The show will begin at 6 p.m. ET.
“Come wish 5-string banjo pioneer a happy 75th birthday during this special Pete Wernick Birthday Celebration on Deering Live,” read an announcement for the event. Deering also announced that fans could post questions in the live chat during the performance, which Wernick might answer.
Wernick is well-known for founding bluegrass band Hot Rize in the late 1970s. He also holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Columbia University and is former President of the International Bluegrass Music Association.
He recently contributed to Relix Magazine with a piece remembering the legacy of the late Tony Rice. Read that in full here: In Memoriam: Pete Wernick Remembers Tony Rice
