Thundercat has shared “She Knows Too Much,” the second single from his fifth studio album, Distracted. The latest advance offering from the singer-songwriter and freak-funk bassist’s first full-length project since 2020’s It Is What It Is features a posthumous contribution from his close friend and frequent collaborator Mac Miller. The bittersweet completion of a song started before the rapper’s 2018 passing is paired with an animated music video directed by Léa Esmaili and produced by Blinkink

“I’m grateful to have spent my time on this planet with Mac,” Thundercat shared. “What an artist, what a spirit, what a joy to have experienced.”

While assembling Distracted, Thundercat unearthed the stem of “She Knows Too Much,” originally captured in a session with Miller, pianist Taylor Graves, and recording engineer Josh Berg, and saw it as a strong fit among the project’s leftfield reflections. After receiving approval from the Mac Miller Estate, he finished the song with a hand from Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin, who helped to strike a balance between the lush freak-outs of 2017’s Drunk and the tender, mournful overtones of It Is What It Is across the album. The infectious, unbothered romp over a thumping backbeat and Thundercat’s cooing falsetto pairs perfectly with the eye-popping video, which shows the duo cruising through a kaleidoscopic confusion of animation styles.

Distracted is available to pre-order and pre-save now. Listen to “I Did This To Myself” below, and read on for the album’s full tracklist.
