The Who to Release ‘Live at Eden Project’ Orchestral Album

The Who have announced Live At Eden Project, a new orchestral live album. Set for release on May 29, the rock pioneers’ latest archival dispatch captures their July 2023 performance at Cornwall’s visually arresting biodome and botanical garden complex, which paired the iconic founding duo of Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend with backing from the Heart of England Philharmonic Orchestra. To preview the project, they’ve shared the lead single of “Pinball Wizard.”
The Who’s Live at Eden Project was recorded near the end of their The Who Hits Back! Tour, which ran from 2022 to 2023 and joined the band with local orchestras in their trek across North America and Europe; the last lap of the outing simultaneously marked the end of their orchestral period, a format centered in their touring beginning in 2019. The album will be their second orchestral live album to date, following 2022’s The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley, which preserves their July 2019 stand at the famed London stadium. Release materials for the latest project underscore Eden Project’s unique character as a venue, citing “natural acoustics and enclosed structures [that] created a warm, detailed sonic environment” offering “a clarity and intimacy unmatched by traditional stadium settings.”
Live at Eden Project’s 24-song tracklist focuses heavily on Tommy, with seven selections culminating in “We’re Not Gonna Take It” opening the project before other classics like “Who Are You,” “Eminence Front,” “My Generation,” “Won’t Get Fooled AgainWon’t Get Fooled Again,” “Love Reign O’er Me” and a closer of “Baba O’Riley.” The album is available to pre-order and pre-save now.
