In August 2025, The String Cheese Incident debuted their Campout in the Pines event, performing two nights at the Pines Music Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Special guests included Del McCoury Band, The Travelin' McCourys, STS9 and Feed The Talking Dog. The Campout returned in 2026 and SCI welcomed Leftover Salmon, Lettuce, Eggy and Dogs in a Pile. The group has just announced that the festivities will be back on August 13 and 14, 2027. The full lineup announcement will follow on November 10.
String Cheese just wrapped up a two-night Halloween run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. The evening before these shows the band appeared at the Providence Performing Arts Center for the first time. The second set featured an appearance by the Providence Drum Troupe who emerged for a “Drums” sequence which led into The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” and then Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).” Both of these songs had previously been played by SCI on only one other occasion, at the Electric Forest Festival on 6/22/18. The second set also included a version of the Talking Heads’ “Nothing But Flowers,” which was fitting since that group first came together at the Rhode island School of Design. SCI had last performed the tune on 6/23/23.
On Friday at the Cap, String Cheese opened in its acoustic “Living Room” setup. The band then played “Colorado Bluebird Sky,” “Get Tight” and “Shine,” moving to electric during the third tune. The second set was notable for its opening seven songs, which segued seamlessly from one to the other during a 76 minute sequence that began with “Beautiful” and moved through” “Jellyfish,” Joyful Sound,” Fire On The Mountain,” “Land’s End,” “Glory Chords” and “Star.” The group previously played “Fire on the Mountain” on August 9th of this year, the anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s passing but otherwise has interpreted the tune only five other times after debuting it on 8/11/98.
The Halloween show featured some extended periods of improv, as well as two covers that hadn’t surfaced in a little while. During the first set, the band’s performance of “Miss Brown’s Teahouse” led into Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” and then back into “Miss Brown’s Teahouse.” SCI had previously interpreted the film tune on only one additional instance, at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL for Hulaween 2014. During the second frame, the band offered a take on the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For The Devil.” The six-piece played it at last year’s Hulaween but otherwise hadn’t interpreted the song since 2019. At the very end of the evening, the members of String Cheese came out for their encore wearing the New York Knicks Jerry Garcia T-shirt that Cap owner Peter Shapiro had custom-printed prior to Game 4 of the NBA Finals. That night the Knicks came from 29 points behind to win the game, which is the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history (and then they clinched the title in Game 5).
The String Cheese Incident is off until a gig in Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
