Funk-aficionado The New Mastersounds have announced a new live album, Live at Cervantes Volume I. The live music collection is available exclusively through the Color Red Vinyl Club. To mark the momentous musical occasion, the quartet has unveiled a digital single/ new blues-tinged live take on “Gonna Get in My Way.”
The New Mastersounds’ run at the Denver venue represented a sonic highpoint during the group’s 25th-anniversary tour, which doubled as their long-overdue post-pandemic return to the United States. According to the British-bred ensemble, the concert venue has been a preferred and foundational location for amassing the band’s transatlantic following.
The set includes nine songs, which touch select corners of the band’s illustrious history, from “MRG” to “San Frantico,” Color Red Vinyl Club members will have full access to the one-of-a-kind live listening experience.
“This was a monumental weekend at our favorite club in the States. We captured two nights’ worth of material and look forward to sharing the energy in the room with our longtime fans and members of the Color Red Vinyl Club.”
Today’s single release features guest assistance from vocalist Shelby Kemp (The Lucky Strokes, Royal Horses) and Chris Spies on keyboard player The Lucky Strokes, Honey Island Swamp Band). Initially, the track was released on 2019’s Shake It, featuring Lamar Williams Jr., and has since been revisited and smoked out in Southern frill.
Eddie Roberts, frontman of Newmaster Sounds, started Color Red in 2018 “as a record label rooted in collaborating to produce new original music by independent artists.” Since then, Roberts has cut vinyl records for everyone from George Porter Jr. to True Loves and his own groups: W.R.D. (Robert Walter, Eddie Roberts, Adam Deitch) and Eddie Roberts & The Lucky Strokes.
