The Disco Biscuits Debut Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” Mash-Up at Electric Forest

Over the weekend, Electric Forest returned for its 2025 staging. At its longtime venue of Rothbury, Michigan’s Double JJ resort, the storied electronic summit hosted some of the best artists of the genre and its countless subdivisions, promoting a subversive mix of styles. Among the weekend’s many highlights was a set from The Disco Biscuits’ EDM offshoot TRACTORBEAM, which gives the storied jamtronica outfit opportunities to work with its more eclectic, contemporary and bass drop-inclined influences.
TRACTORBEAM’s set arrived on Saturday, June 21, following a solo set from bassist Marc Brownstein’s DJ Brownie alias on Friday night. On Electric Forest’s Sherwood Court second stage from 11:15 p.m. to 12:45 a.m.–calm, mid-program hours for an electronic festival of this caliber–the quartet of Brownstein, guitarist Jon Gutwillig, drummer Allen Aucoin and keyboardist Aron Magner donned their matching jumpsuits to tear through a litany of mashups.
Many of the band’s longtime favorites were recombined with recent chart-topping selects from drum & bass, dance, hip-hop and more, including “Dino Baby” with Eliza Rose & Interplanetary Criminal’s “B.O.T.A.,” “Ring the Doorbell Twice” with Young M.A.’s “OOOUUU’ and Kid Cudi’s “Day & Nite,” “Times Square” and Dom Doll’s “girl$.” The performance’s highest moment was a live debut of their 25-year essential “Tricycle” mixed with Madonna’s iconic 1989 hit “Like a Prayer.”
The Disco Biscuits’ Electric Forest set continues a recent tear of exceptionally energized performances, including the landmark Camp Home Again special event at Woodstock, N.Y.’s Bearsville Theater last week.
