Following an eight-year hiatus, Dan Auerbach’s The Arcs have returned with their first collection of new music since 2015, Electrophonic Chronic, on Jan. 27 via Easy Eye Sound. Today, the group have shared a feel for what’s to come with the lead single, “Keep On Dreamin’,” and the official music video. Watch here.

The ensemble’s forthcoming release was co-produced by Auerbach and fellow bandmate Leon Michels. Electrophonic Chronic features the late-Richard Swift, who passed away in 2018 but was included in the recording process of the 12-track album, which was largely tracked prior to his untimely demise.

The LP was birthed from the ensemble’s admiration for vintage soul music, old-school garage, and space-age pop from the 1960s– prevalent themes on the band’s newly released lead single– which also sees instrumental contributions from fellow band members: Nick Movshon and Homer Steinweiss, along with aforementioned Auerbach, Swift and Michels.

Auerbach shared memories of Swift and his personal impact via press release: “Whether it was New York City or Nashville or L.A. or Swift’s hometown of Cottage Grove, Oregon, wherever we were, we would always get in the studio together. Always. It was our favorite thing to do. It’s rare that you meet a group of people that you click with like that, who you instantly bond with. We were just having fun, making sound, making music. It was an amazing time for me.”

Michels offered, “There are probably between 80 and 100 tracks that we laid down, because we just constantly recorded after we put out Yours, Dreamily. It was so fun to be in the studio once again, so we were just making music all the time. I think there was always a plan to make a follow-up record.”
