Today, Tedeschi Trucks Band have released Future Soul, the long-awaited sixth studio album from the Southern rock outfit fronted by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. The trailblazing 12-piece ensemble’s follow-up to 2022’s I Am the Moon lands amid a torrent of activity from the band, currently midway through their 10-show annual residency at New York’s historic Beacon Theatre, where each night has brought surprises ranging from debut covers to sit-ins from giants like Nels Cline. As the band took a break from the run last night, a selection from their show last Saturday served as the material for a guest spot on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Tedeschi Trucks Band’s appearance on ABC’s long-running late-night program brought the television debut of “Future Soul,” the ripping title track from their new project, captured at the top of the second set in their fourth show at the Beacon. With the house lights up to highlight the sold-out room, the band cooked the fiery jam vehicle down to a three-minute outpouring, showing off Tedeschi’s powerful howl and Trucks’ mastery on the Flying V.
