Tedeschi Trucks Band paid tribute to a pair of famed singer-songwriters over the weekend. While headlining Vienna, VA’s Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts on Friday, TTB debuted their take on Dolly Parton’s “Wildflowers,” a song the singer recorded for her 1987 album Trio with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. Though Parton passed away on Tuesday, Tedeschi Trucks Band’s show on Wednesday was on a bill before Alabama Shakes and Friday’s performance was their first full closing set since her death. The ensemble also brought out their opening act Lukas Nelson and his band during their encore for a pair of numbers they collaborated on earlier this summer, Crosby, Stills Nash & Young’s “Helpless” and Matthew Moore’s “Space Captain,” a highlight of Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen project.
Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the venue the next night and, after noticing that James Taylor was set to take the same stage the following night, offered up his “Fire & Rain,” a tune they have played most years since 2014. They also nodded to CSNY a second time with “Ohio,” which they debuted at New York’s Beacon Theatre earlier this year and have played regularly ever since, and offered a second take on “Wildflowers” during their encore.
The large-scale band and Nelson will perform at Bethel, NY’s Bethel Woods Center for the Performing Arts tonight. The venue is located on the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival.
