On Wednesday, Tedeschi Trucks Band took their current Future Soul Tour, which backs the release of their sixth studio album, to the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth, Texas. Last night’s concert was billed to feature support from bluegrass picker Molly Tuttle, who was invited to sit in during the headliner’s cover of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright,” a song they have covered with fluidity over the years.
Prior to Tuttle’s arrival on stage, Tedeschi Trucks Band went down a familiar rabbit hole, lined with original songs from their various studio chapters and choice covers. After submitting “Don’t Let Me Slide” and “Playing With My Emotions,” the big band slid into The Allman Brothers Band’s “Stand Back.” After breaking up their own material with a borrowed pick, the group reached into their own songbook, pulling out “Part of Me,” “What in the World,” and “Under the Knife.”
Like before, covers broke the trend through the band’s choice of Derek and the Dominos’ “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?” After an instrumental segue into “Let Me Get By,” Tuttle arrived on stage to assist the husband and wife duo and their band deliver Dylan’s famed track of resilience. The guest added guitar and vocals to the ’60s Freewheelin’ classic, before leaving her hosts to take on Junior Wells’ “Little by Little.”
The remainder of the concert consisted of “I Got You,” “Be Kind,” “Hero,” and “Midnight in Harlem,” before a final pair of covers. For their encore, Tedeschi Trucks Band went with James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain,” followed by “I Want More” > “Beck’s Bolero.”
After last night’s performance in Fort Worth, the band will remain in the Lone Star State, taking their music to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston, Texas, on Friday, April 17, where special guest Lukas Nelson will join them. Tickets remain on sale.
