The Tedeschi Trucks Band have announced that their 2021 documentary, Learning To Live Together: The Return of Mad Dogs & Englishmen, will be available to view on YouTube for a limited time. To celebrate Joe Cocker’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Southern rock torchbearers’ feature-length film will stream in its entirety for free through November 11-16, exclusively via Tedeschi Trucks Band’s official YouTube channel.

Learning To Live Together: The Return of Mad Dogs & Englishmen, directed by Jesse Lauter, is a thorough and thoughtful retelling of Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs’ reunion 45 years after their historic 1970 tour. All 12 remaining members revived the memory of their original run at 2015’s LOCKN’ Festival with the Grammy-winning Tedeschi Trucks Band and Leon Russell, pooling the talents of an all-star ensemble including Rita Coolidge, Chris Robinson, Jim Keltner, Dave Mason, Claudia Lennear and Steve Earle for an exhilarating tribute to the late Cocker. The film captures that staging’s electrifying and powerful energy with a mix of never-before-seen archival footage and new interviews with members of the intergenerational supergroup.

“The interactions with Leon were really incredible, and as for our band, I think it was a bit of a turning point for us,” Derek Trucks reflected on the experience in a recent interview with Relix. “The torch is never passed. That’s not really how it works, but you do occasionally step into a situation where you go, ‘Oh, we’re on the right track and what we’re doing is resonating with people that we care about. We’re not just preaching to the choir, our heroes are on board.’ It doesn’t always work out that way, but this was a special moment.”

In September, the Tedeschi Trucks Band commemorated the 10th anniversary of their unforgettable performance with the Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited live album. On Saturday, they closed out the 40th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony with another tribute to Cocker, featuring guest spots from Nathaniel Rateliff, Cyndi Lauper and more; read a full recap of the event here.
