TeachRock Announce Help on the Way Holiday Tour with Segue, Featuring Members of moe. Dark Star Orchestra, Eggy, Lotus and More
TeachRock, the free curriculum program founded by Steven Van Zandt that uses music to produce engaging new learning materials, has announced the Help on the Way Holiday Tour, uniting representatives from some of the jam world’s leading acts for two annual holiday benefit shows.
At Fairfield, Conn.’s FTC Stage One and New York’s Cutting Room on Dec. 17 and 18, the organization will welcome Segue, an all-star jam outfit featuring Rob Eaton (Dark Star Orchestra), Tim Palmieri (Lotus), Dani Battat (Eggy), Sarah Elaz (Bearly Dead), Vinnie Amico (moe.) and TeachRock’s Executive Director, Bill Carbone (Max Creek), for a genre-defying testament to music’s power to from emotional connections, and a demonstration of how that same impact could transform pedagogy.
“At the heart of TeachRock is a simple idea,” Van Zandt said. “When you make learning meaningful, kids show up — not just in the room, but in their lives. Teachers are the ones making that happen, day after day, and they don’t get nearly enough credit. HELP ON THE WAY is our chance to celebrate them, support them, and share the power of music with the community.”
“Events like this remind us why this work matters,” adds Bill Carbone. “Music brings people together in ways nothing else can, and that’s exactly what we aim to do in classrooms every day. These concerts help us ensure that teachers have the tools, training, and support they deserve, and that students can discover joy and curiosity in their learning again.”
Launched over a decade ago by the iconic E Street Band guitarist, with the Founders Board of Bono, Jackson Browne, Martin Scorsese and Bruce Springsteen, TeachRock provides vital education resources for schools around the world. Through the sound, stories and science of music, the program endeavors to create engaging lesson plans and materials for history, math, science, design, music and more, using the form’s connective power to inspire students from all walks of life—at no cost to students, teachers or families. TeachRock has found tremendous success with this unique perspective, and today supports over 70,000 educators and 30,000 schools in all 50 US States, England, Spain, Norway and beyond.
In New York City, where TeachRockMore is an official partner of NYC Public Schools, more than 4,000 NYC teachers are registered to use TeachRock’s online curriculum. In Connecticut, over 1,200 teachers are currently using TeachRock lessons, and the State Department of Education is set to add TeachRock’s “An American History of Rock and Soul” history elective to its GoOpen CT.
