On Monday, Jan. 24, Talib Kweli and his live band welcomed jazz legend Bob James and iconic English-American rapper and record producer Slick Rick at The Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City.
The night was billed as "A Historic Night of Soul Samples & Rhymes." James' tracks have been sampled since the dawn of hip-hip with notable uses by Run-D.M.C., Ghostface Killah, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more–the evening paid ample tribute to his influence.
