Last night at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., Steely Dan brought their Earth After Hours tour to the esteemed Westchester County venue. The show began with a run-through of the band’s sixth studio album, Aja, performed from start to finish. Then they worked through other material, including a cover of The Crusaders’ “Keep That Same Old Feeling” and fan favorites like “Dirty Work.”
The single-set show got underway with the songs off Aja, beginning with “Black Cow” and the album’s title track. “Deacon Blues” and “Peg” arrived as the ensemble worked through the tracking list. “Home at Last” and “Got The News” also landed before the final song from their studio record, “Josie.”
Following the completion of Aja, Steely Dan chose to continue with a song off their third studio album, Pretzel Logic, on “Night by Night,” followed by a taste of the LP Gaucho on “Hey Nineteen.” “Black Friday” arrived next before the group dug into “Time Out of Mind” and “Dirty Work.”
Next, they performed a cover of The Crusaders’ “Keep That Same Old Feeling” before returning to Pretzel Logic on the LP’s title track. Then, for the final song of the main set, they ran through “My Old School” before delivering their encore, which began with the popular number, “Reelin’ in the Years,” and lastly, a rendition of Joe Williams’ “A Man Ain’t Supposed to Cry.”
After last night’s performance, Steely Dan will remain in Port Chester, N.Y., for two more gigs at The Capitol Theatre. The Aug. 12 show promises another complete album run-through, only this time, they’ll play The Royal Scam, which includes highly anticipated performances of “Kid Charlemagne” and “Haitian Divorce,” amongst others. Finally, on Aug. 13, for their final stand, Steel Dan will work through their live album of greatest hits, Northeast Corridor, landing on “Rikki Don’t Lose Your Number” and more.
