On Saturday, Sept. 15, Smokey Robinson returned to Port Chester, N.Y.’s The Capitol Theatre. After regular appearances on the historic stage through the years, the legendary soul singer, songwriter and producer’s latest stop looked back on his legacy of song with a special 50th anniversary celebration for A Quiet Storm, the 1975 album that initiated and named a new movement in R&B.
Robinson set off the show with his 1981 classic “Being with You,” then honored his landmark third solo studio album with key selections like “The Agony and the Ecstasy” and the title track. After working through a litany of classic Motown hits from The Miracles and The Temptations, alongside solo originals like “Just to See Her” and “How You Make Me Feel,” the artist and his powerful backing band closed out on a high note with a cover of William DeVaughn’s “Be Thankful for What You Got.”
