The story of Shadowgrass began in 2014. That’s when Luke Morris (mandolin), Clay Russell (banjo) and Kyser George (guitar) met during a jam session at the Grayson County Fiddlers Convention in Elk Creek, VA. Morris was just 14 years old at the time, while Russell was 13 and Kyser was just 9(!). The relationship developed from there, which is now fully-flowered with the current Shadowgrass quintet that also features Evan Campbell (upright bass) and Madison Morris (fiddle). As the band has said, “We’ve grown up together and have watched each other evolve into the people we are today,” they say. “It sounds cliche, but we definitely act more like siblings than bandmates.”
The group has just signed to New West Records with an album expected to follow next year. Ahead of this, the string band has released a new single with special guest Lindsay Lou. Today we are premiering “When You’re Coming Home” which is available via streaming services.
Shadowgrass says of the tune, “This song started by just humming the riff over and over again one day and the words eventually came along later in the process. It really came to life inside the studio when Lindsay came in and sang on the track. It brought a whole different light to it.”
The quintet is currently on tour with a gig this evening in Dallas at the Granada Theater. The band’s confirmed dates appear below, followed by our premiere of “When You’re Coming Home.”
