Secretly Canadian Outlines Career-Spanning Compilation Album ‘4 Hits & a Miss – The Essential Richard Swift’

The Independent record label Secretly Canadian has announced the forthcoming release of 4 Hits & a Miss – The Essential Richard Swift, due November 1. The posthumous compilation album is scheduled to arrive over five years after the multi-instrumentalist and esteemed producer (Foxygen, Nathaniel Ratelieff & the Night Sweats, Guster, Kevin Morby) succumbed to complications related to alcoholism.

Hits & a Miss – The Essential Richard Swift draws on 14 tracks that range from classic pulls to experimental leaning numbers. As a unique addition to the forthcoming offering, a never-before-released song dubbed “Common Law” will be presented to fans for the first time. The assemblage of choice material aims to present a well-rounded sonic capture of Swift’s emotionally leaning folk-pop tendencies and exploratory approach to studio work, much of which was conceived at his National Freedom studio in rural Cottage Grove, Ore.

Notably, Swift’s final solo album, released two months after his tragic July 3, 2018 passing, The Hex, came from Secretly Canadian, further delineated via the release of comedy leaning “KFC” in 2021 (three years after his death), and B-side “Man’s Man,” another posthumous release dropped as a 7” single via the Indiana-based label.

As an added feature of today’s album announcement, Secretly Canadian has shared the official lyrical music video for “Would You?” Watch below.
