Today, May 14, Sam Grisman Project announced its first consecutive run of dates with bluegrass troubadour Peter Rowan. Based in The Centennial State, the four-night jaunt arrives after previously shared collaborative appearances slated for The Caverns in Pelham, Tenn., also featuring Alex Hargreaves, on June 30 and Sunday, September 1, at the Earl Scruggs Music Festival in Mill Spring, N.C.
The newly revealed Colorado crawl will begin on August 22 at the Chautauqua Auditorium in Boulder, Colo. The ensemble, comprised of Sam Grisman, Chris J. English, Max Flansburg, Dominick Leslie, and Bennett Sullivan, will offer an entirely acoustic music sampling while honoring the legacy of Old & In the Way and revisiting the musical history shared by Peter and Sam’s father, David Grisman and much more.
The nostalgic celebration continues on August 23 at Denver’s Gothic Theatre, with more builds off reprised classics paying homage to the rich history of Sam’s dad, Rowan, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements and John Kahn. On August 24, the blended touring group will arrive at Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colo., before their last stop on this leg of their summer schedule, August 25 at Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellvue, Colo.
Apart from today’s announcement, the band has added a second date at the revered Levon Helm Studio in Woodstock, N.Y., after the success of 2023’s sold-out debut. A follow-up to their already-announced June 15 gig, which will arrive on June 16 and feature Grisman, Robertson, English, Aaron Lipp and Roy Williams. Grisman and Williams remain current for the group’s ensuing June Northeastern dates, with the remaining slots filled by the exciting additions of Victor Furtado and Casey Campbell–making his SGP debut.
On the road, the band is known for its expansive music catalog, having added 400-plus numbers to its archive in the last 16 months. This includes covers from Dawg, Dylan, Garcia/Hunter, Doc Watson, The Band, John Hartford, and traditionals, in addition to material that reflects the player’s solo work, from frequent collaborator Logan Ledger’s “River of Fools” to English’s “We Share As One.”
